His Best

It has been quite a while since I have shared on my blog, but I received wise advice from a mentor and sister in Christ this week, and felt like I should share it with others.

We all wait on a daily basis. We wait for the shower to get warm, for use of the bathroom (which I do a lot lately-sharing a bathroom with three other girls), for a train or bus, for a text back from a friend, for a spouse to come home, for our favorite show to come on, or dinner to be ready. Sometimes though, we have seasons in our lives when we are waiting on God for more significant things in our lives. These things are incredibly hard to wait for. These things can keep us up at night and keep us on edge during the day, and make us desperate for an answer. When we are waiting for these things, what can we do? What can we do when we become uneasy with waiting on major things in our lives?

These questions are answered throughout scripture, and there are a few passages below.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Isaiah 30:18:
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!
Isaiah 40:31
.....but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Lamentations 3:25
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

According to these scriptures we are told to trust in and wait on the Lord. For me, this is easier said than done. When I am waiting on God for something I know I should trust. I know in my head God will bless me and continue to give me strength, but my emotions make me think otherwise. I get anxious and think that God forgot about me. I would like to imagine that others also have this problem. So how do we overcome this? How do we trust in the Lord in the waiting seasons in our lives?

First and foremost, we continue to pray. We pray that the Lord will provide us with the things that we lack. Next, we remember his promises. This is something my mentor needs to remind me of more than I would like to admit. Our God is a good God and promises the best to those who trust in him. Jesus even talks about this in the Sermon on the Mount:

Matthew 7: 9-11
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

If you are waiting, have faith in God. He is perfect and good in every way-including His timing. He is waiting to give you His good gifts, so that His perfect plan will play out in your life. I know how hard it is to wait, but trust in God and take hope in Him, because He is going to give you His best.
